Kom Ombo—a fascinating town in Upper Egypt, famous for its unique double temple! Located 50 km north of Aswan, Kom Ombo was historically significant due to its position along Nubian trade routes.
Temple of Kom Ombo
This Ptolemaic-era temple is one of Egypt’s most unusual structures because it was dedicated to two gods:
Sobek, the crocodile god of fertility and protector against evil.
Horus the Elder (Haroeris), the falcon god of kingship and healing.
The temple’s perfectly symmetrical design reflects this dual dedication, with two entrances, two halls, and two sanctuaries. Inside, you’ll find intricate reliefs, including a depiction of ancient surgical instruments, showing Egypt’s advanced medical knowledge
