South of the modern part, Old Cairo is the oldest area of the capital. A chaotic and messy area that keeps intact the charm of its cobbled alleys full of life.
Walking through Old Cairo will be like time travel: you don’t need to visit any place in particular to appreciate the charm emanating from every corner. The only thing we recommend is not to be in a hurry: walk calmly and keep your eyes and mind well open… you never know where the wonders can hide them…
What to see in Old Cairo
Obviously this part of the city is full of lovely places that are worth visiting. Below we leave you a list of those that we think you can’t miss:
- The Hanging Church
- The Church of Abu Serga (St. Sergius)
- The Synagogue of Ben Ezra
- The Coptic Museum
- The Museum of Egyptian Civilization
- The Mosque of Amr
Don’t miss it:
A trip to Egypt would not be complete without a visit (or maybe even more) to Old Cairo: the heart and soul of the city in fact reside in this place full of history and the frenetic pace of life, so characteristic of the capital. You can travel the area on the other, but we believe that doing so in the company of a guide in Italian is the best option to get to know this area in depth.
If you want to book a guided tour of Cairo, we offer you two modes, one in the day and one in the evening:
- Full Cairo tour with tickets
- Cairo evening tour with dinner
