The Citadel of Saladin has been built between 1176 and 1183 for defensive purposes and today it is one of the most important tourist attractions in Cairo.

Some time ago, the fortress was a small town in the city, a chaotic core that, despite its small size, housed more than 10,000 inhabitants. Divided into several neighborhoods, it had a palace and several mosques, as well as several garrisons of soldiers who guarded the city.
